Abstract

Unicode Support in Web Based Systems

Description:

A walk through of the Unicode support in popular Web Servers including: Cold Fusion, Web Objects and Windows ISS. Use of commercial tools, and processes to implement a Web Based multilingual system.

We will also describe the Unicode implementation of a Web based system using a Unicode Oracle DB in the back end and Cold Fusion in the front end.

Conclusion:

How to provide a Unicode solution all the way facilitates the implementation of multilingual web-based applications.

Summary:

When implementing web-based systems, the recommended solution is to enable Unicode to allow for multilingual support.

Evaluation of available resources, aligning the development tools to provide a Unicode solution all the way, and development guidelines to ensure multilingual scalability. A real life example of a common glossary system published on the Web and the process and technical challenges overcome using off the shelf tools and programmer ingenuity.
