This paper introduces the latest Linux internationalization activities
in the Linux Internationalization Initiative, Free Standards
Group. The Linux Internationalization Initiative was formed in 1999 as a
non profit organization to focus on the
Internationalization of a core set of APIs and components of Linux
distributions in order to achieve a common Linux environment where an
internationalized Linux application can be executed and behave
correctly regardless of distributions. The activities in Linux
Internationalization Initiative include System Architecture, Printing,
Developement Environment, GUI, Texttools, Web technology, Input Method,
Typography, global document, Certification, etc. This paper covers
how Unicode is enabled in Linux and how Internationalization of Linux
in built on top of Unicode.
