Gary Simons - SIL InternationalGary Simons is the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs SIL International. Before that he was Director of SIL's Academic Computing Department (1984-1999). In that capacity he led a number of projects to develop software for field linguists. He has been active in the area of text markup, including helping to develop the Text Encoding Initiative's guidelines for text analysis and interpretation (1989-1994), serving on the TEI's Technical Review Committee (1996-1998), and serving on the editorial board of Markup Languages: Theory and Practice (1998-present). He received a Ph.D. in general linguistics (with minor emphases in computer science and classics) from Cornell University in 1979. |

International Unicode Conferences are organized by Global Meeting Services, Inc., (GMS).
GMS is pleased to be able to offer the International Unicode Conferences under an exclusive
license granted by the Unicode Consortium. All responsibility for conference finances and
operations is borne by GMS. The independent conference board serves solely at the pleasure
of GMS and is composed of volunteers active in Unicode and in international software
