Although localisation of digital material has been a multi-billion dollar business for more than 15 years, up to now there has been no recognised career path for professionals working in the industry. The education and training of professionals required to use frequently changing, leading-edge technologies has never been coherently organised.

The Localisation Research Centre (LRC) co-ordinated a European-funded project aimed at developing a system for the "Certified Localisation Professional". It now is charged with the establishment of the Institute of Localisation Professionals (TILP) as the organisation which will provide professional certification for people working in the localisation industry.

This presentation will provide an overview of the certification programme now being implemented by The Institute of Localisation Professionals, a non-profit organisation to be owned by its members. It will focus on the different occupations in the industry to be certified and the programme that will lead individuals to different levels of certification.
